Privacy policy and cookies
This page explains what happens when you use papertern.com: what we do and do not collect, how advertising and analytics work, and who to contact.
Who we are
Papertern is a set of free invoice, quote and receipt makers, operated by Brandstars Pty Ltd in Sydney, Australia. For a question about this policy or about your own data, email hello@papertern.com.
Person responsible for privacy (Singapore's Data Protection Officer and Quebec's person in charge of the protection of personal information): the Director, Brandstars Pty Ltd, hello@papertern.com.
The short version
Papertern needs no account and no sign-up. Nothing you type into a maker is sent to us: the document and its PDF are built inside your own browser. Papertern is free because it is paid for by advertising through Google AdSense, and we use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which does not use cookies, to see which pages are used.
What you type (never sent to us)
Everything you type into an invoice, quote or receipt, and any logo you add, stays in your browser and is used only to build the document and PDF you see. It is never sent to papertern.com or to any other server. Close the tab and it is gone, unless you have asked us to remember it, below.
Stored on your device
If you tick "Remember my business details on this device", your business details are saved in your browser's local storage so the form is filled in next time. This stays on your device: we cannot see it, and it is never sent to us. Untick the box, or clear your browser's site data, to delete it.
Advertising
Papertern is paid for by advertising, served through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a visitor's prior visits to this site or other websites. Google uses the information it collects from sites that use its services, including AdSense, to serve ads, measure their performance, and improve its own products; see Google's page on how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and its advertising privacy overview.
You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info. Ads never appear inside the document form or next to the Download button, and nothing you type is used to target them.
Consent choices for UK, EEA and Swiss visitors
Google requires publishers to get consent from UK, EEA and Swiss visitors before using cookies for personalised ads (Google's EU user consent policy). Google's consent message is certified under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework (Google LLC CMP, TCF CMP ID 300). To change a choice, use the "Privacy and cookie settings" link at the page bottom, which Google adds. It reopens with three options: Consent, Do not consent and Manage options.
Analytics
Papertern uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to see which pages get used and roughly how many people visit. It does not use cookies to track you, and it does not build a profile of you or follow you between websites: it records only aggregate counts, such as page views, approximate country and browser, that cannot identify you individually.
Fonts, PDF library and hosting
The page's fonts (Geist Mono, Schibsted Grotesk and Papertern Text) and the PDF tool it uses to build your document (jsPDF, an open-source library) are stored on papertern.com itself, not fetched from Google Fonts or a third-party code library at the time you visit. Papertern is hosted on Cloudflare Pages.
Who receives data and in which countries
We do not receive what you type into a maker. Google (advertising) and Cloudflare (hosting and analytics) each process the ordinary technical data needed to show you the page and, for Google, to serve ads, and this can involve servers outside your own country.
How long things are kept
We keep none of your documents: they only exist in your browser. Details you asked us to remember stay in your browser's local storage until you delete them.
Your rights
Because we do not collect your document details, there is usually nothing of yours for us to show, correct or delete. If you have emailed us directly, you can ask hello@papertern.com to tell you what we hold, correct it, or delete it.
Do Not Track
Papertern does not respond differently to a browser's "Do Not Track" signal, because Cloudflare Web Analytics does not track you across pages or sites.
Children
Papertern is a business tool, made for invoicing and quoting, and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how your privacy has been handled, email hello@papertern.com first so we can try to put it right. If you are not satisfied, you can also complain to your local regulator: in Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC); in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO); in Ireland, the Data Protection Commission (DPC); in Canada, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (OPC); in New Zealand, the Privacy Commissioner; or in Singapore, the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC).
